And so it ends

This blog has been a chronicle of my Fulbright year. I have enjoyed sharing it with all of you and hope you have enjoyed being part of the journey.

The year is at an end and so the blog must also end.

What have I done this past year?

I wore out a money belt and finished filling up a passport.

I made new friends and learned a new language (sort of).

I took thousands of pictures, my camera an ever present companion.

I navigated through unfamiliar places.

I ate new things.

I experienced the extraordinary kindness of strangers.

I read, I thought, I analyzed, I wrote.

I had a grand and wonderful adventure.

Many thanks to Fulbright, especially the Romanian Fulbright Commission, for their support of my time in Romania. Thanks to my own college for the sabbatical that made this time possible. Thanks to my friends and family for their care and encouragement.

Remember what Bilbo used to say: It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to. J.R.R. Tolkien

And so it ends.

  1. How sad….although I am glad to have you state side. Are you going to have your blog printed? I think there are ways to do it! It would be a great thing to keep!

  2. Sigh. How sad- but bittersweet. It’s always good to chronicle- even when it ends, you have something to keep as a reminder.

  3. Hello. I don’t know where to write you something so I chose this last post, although I read all of them. So… i’m a romanian girl, but I study in Slovakia and it was so nice to see your romanian adventure. It’s so interesting to understand how other people percieve the country where you live and which things impress them most. I loved your posts and I laughed so much about pufos and cutit (cuts it – I would have never thought about that :))) I want to congratulate you and to say thank you for brightning my day. Good luck in every thing you do.
    Să ai o zi frumoasă,
